Low Spec Games
Hi,
With all these sales for games going on I am keen to pick up some games that I can run on my laptop for when I'm out and about.
No need to bother with descriptions unless you feel the need, I'll be able to find the info myself. Just throw a few names at me.
Here's some info that will help you with recomendations:
I enjoy shooter games, but am overall not successful with them. I however consider myself a very good RPG'er and love playing them. As you can see by the list below I tend to play and like many games combine these genres. I prefer what I would call a "full game" but also greatly enjoy simple indie titles. The turn based map play from the Total War games was also great, and I prefered having the army ready at the start to having to build a base and create units. However, I havn't purchased any of them since Rome, although I will be grabbing Napoleon when it comes out.
Games I have played and enjoyed:
Torchlight
Guild Wars (ofc)
Defcon
Zombie Driver
Mass Effect
Borderlands
TF2
L4D(1+2)
Assassin's Creed
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Far Cry 2
Forza 3
Company Of Heroes
DiRT
Total War series up till Medieval 2
Dawn Of War
Saints Row 2
Laptop specs:
2ghz dual core
2gb ram
ATI 3650
Some of the games mentioned above do not run on this laptop.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions made.

Did you just say that AVP 2 or UT are a waste of money? Compared to some F2P MMO?

You seem to advise someone to play a browser game.
Also, no thanks, I'd rather not have a Mexican called Jesus stalking me.

If you've got dosbox and don't mind (much) older titles you can download the first elder scrolls games for free.

There was a time when MUDs were the shiznit. Although Browser based, it's(linked in previous post) pretty close to one. Most kids will never know the joy of them...because it's all about the pewpew...pew.pew.pew. now.

MUDs were great, because they were the best. Playing a browser F2P game is like playing in mud (see what I did there?) and having fun, despite being able to... I don't know, but a RC car?

With DosBox, he can also download Little Big Adventure 1 or 2, Smurfs (awesome game) and few other abandonwares.
Or a SNES emulator and get Ninja Gaiden trilogy. Either you play it a long, long time or you give up fast.

Age of Empires
Empire Earth
Dawn of War
All RTS' but they never get old.
I also keep a soft spot for Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. People still play it online even though it is around 7 or 8 years old.

Mount and Blade looks nice and AVP could be good aswell. As do the Civ games.
Football Manager seems more of a game for football fans, which is not me.
I played GTA4 and hated it in comparison to SR2. Being forced to go out bowling with a friend while halfway through a mission was rather irritating. Do the earlier GTA's share this problem?
I used to play DoW a lot, and despite what you say, it has become old.
I have a copy of Age of Mythology somewhere, I might try find it and see if it is as fun as it was when I was younger.
There is high possibility of not having an internet connection when I'm using the laptop, so browser and online games are out of the question.
Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. Keep them coming.

The earlier GTA's are great games. I think they lost their way when they went 3D.
Hellgate London is worth looking at.

As said earlier, Age of Empires, also worth taking a look at is Seven Kingdoms (and the sequel and expansion) and the Civ games; they still give me hours of play.
As for MUDs I still play the same one I've been playing since 95 (legends of Terris) but that has it's own GUI so now browsers for me!

That is all.
(Edit: Ok, it's not a shooter game but if you like rhythm and music based games, it's a free download, and you can play it for hours without getting bored.)
